  • 4 lbs boneless pork shoulder
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 4 garlic cloves, smashed
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce (bottled or homemade)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder, rinse, and pat dry. Season with salt and pepper.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, sauté sliced onions until translucent (about 5 minutes). Add smashed garlic and sauté for another minute until fragrant.
  3. Place sautéed onions and garlic in the bottom of the slow cooker. Lay the seasoned pork on top and pour apple cider vinegar around it.
  4. In a bowl, mix barbecue sauce with brown sugar and pour over the pork.
  5. Cover and cook on low heat for 8 hours or high heat for about 4 hours until the meat is tender.
  6. Remove pork from the slow cooker, shred with forks, and serve on buns or with sides.
