For the Cake

  • 2 large Eggs Room temperature for best results.
  • 3/4 cup Whole Milk Substitute with a dairy-free option if needed.
  • 2 tbsp Raw Sugar For topping to create a crunchy finish.

For the Creamy Custard Sauce

  • 6 large Egg Yolks Fresh yolks are key.
  • 6 tbsp Sugar Adjust based on your taste.
  • 1.5 cups Whole Milk Cream can be used for richer custard.
  • 1.5 tsp Vanilla Vanilla bean can be used for deeper flavor.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease and flour an 8" or 9" round springform pan.
  • Sift the flour, baking powder, salt, cloves, and nutmeg together in a large bowl.
  • Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Mix in sugar until just combined.
  • Peel and slice the Granny Smith apples into uniform pieces. Toss with the flour mixture.
  • Beat the eggs and milk together in a separate bowl. Fold this mixture into the apple-flour mixture.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Sprinkle raw sugar on top.
  • Bake for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Whisk egg yolks and sugar in a saucepan. Gradually heat milk and combine with yolk mixture over medium heat.
  • Stir in vanilla once custard is thickened and remove from heat.
  • Serve the cake slices warm, drizzled with creamy custard.

Notes

Optional: Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an indulgent twist.
