For the Filling

  • 4 large yellow onions or sweet onions
  • 1 pound ground beef can substitute with ground turkey or chicken if desired
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt adjust according to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper adjust according to taste

For the Wrapping

  • 12 strips bacon thick-cut preferred

For the Glaze

  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce use favorite brand or homemade

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Peel your onions, slicing off the top inch and hollowing out the insides.
  • Mix the filling by combining ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and optional BBQ sauce in a bowl until well blended.
  • Stuff the hollowed onions with the meat mixture, packing it firmly.
  • Wrap each stuffed onion tightly with bacon strips, securing with toothpicks if necessary.
  • Arrange the wrapped onions on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Bake for 45-50 minutes, brushing with BBQ sauce halfway through.
  • Check that the internal meat temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) before serving.

Notes

Optional: Drizzle with extra BBQ sauce before serving for enhanced flavor.
